“Sublime writing… Brian writes in a way that manages to be both approachable and fresh, and is equally enjoyable for both listener and performer.”
“I loved learning (Brian’s) anthem he wrote for us, it’s really great to sing!” – 10 year old chorister
“With effective writing and a clear understanding of the forces he writes for, Brian is wonderful at capturing the mood through his writing, and produces music that speaks to the soul.”
Brian's compositional output is varied and wide-ranging, from the intimate to full scale orchestral works. They are frequently performed in cathedrals and concert halls across the country and further afield.
Brian studied composition at university both as part of his Undergraduate and Master’s degrees. He is fast gaining recognition as an up and coming composer, with published works performed across the globe in cathedrals and concert halls.
He composes for many different genres, although his focus is in choral music. With a wide range of works written for various forces, from approachable works for amateur choirs to more challenging and complex compositions, his work covers many different areas and languages. From a full-scale symphonic setting of the Requiem mass, to a wide range of motets, anthems and service settings, Brian has explored a variety of musical styles in his choral writing.
He has also written for other genres, including part songs, solo songs, instrumental works, string quartets and various brass pieces, as well as a wide catalogue of arrangements of various sacred and secular songs.
Brian is in demand as a composer: most recently he was commissioned by Peel Cathedral on the Isle of Man to provide a setting of the Te Deum Laudamus, in celebration of their 40th anniversary of consecration in November 2020, with the accompanying Jubilate Deo receiving its first performance at Canterbury Cathedral in August 2021.
He is always happy to discuss any potential commissions and meet specific requirements, requests for scores or to purchase sets for performance. For more information please get in touch with him via email (see Contact)
